Doug Stotler Named Jefferson College Athletic Director (5/15/09)
The Jefferson College Board of Trustees has appointed Doug Stotler of Grafton, Illinois, as the community college’s new full-time Athletic Director effective July 1.
Stotler is a native of Herculaneum and is excited about the opportunity to return to the area. He has a previous connection to Jefferson College, having served as Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach in 1985-86. Additionally, his father, Bill Stotler, is well-known throughout Jefferson County as a former basketball head coach and athletic director at Herculaneum High School.
For the past five years, Stotler has held the position of Sports Information Director and Athletic Director at Lewis and Clark Community College, overseeing 10 Division II NJCAA sports. He has been the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Lewis and Clark Community College for over 16 years. He has also served in roles as Assistant Athletic Director, Assistant Baseball Coach, and Academic Advisor.
Stotler began his career at Jefferson College before heading to McKendree College as the assistant coach from 1986-1990. He assumed the head coach position at St. Louis Community College–Florissant Valley in 1990, before accepting the head coach position at Lewis and Clark in 1993. In total, he possesses 24 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics.
Stotler holds a B.A. degree from Maryville College and a M.S. degree in Physical Education from Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville.
He follows Harold Oetting and Jo Ellen Stringer as only the third athletic director in Jefferson College’s 46-year history.

Congratulations also to Head Coach Sam Carel for being named MCCAC Coach-of-the-Year. Coach Carel also received this honor last season. Coach Carel has recorded his 100th career victory.
Former Vikings Sign With Professional Teams (6/19/09)
Jefferson College right handed pitcher Rob Wort, signed on Tuesday to become a part of the Washington Nationals baseball club. Wort has been assigned to the Nationals' Rookie-Ball affiliate in the Gulf Coast League and will report on June 19th. In two seasons with the Vikings, Wort accumulated 15 saves as the teams' primary closer coming out of the bullpen.
Former Viking left handed pitcher Shaeffer Hall, who recently pitched for the University of Kansas, was drafted and later signed with the New York Yankees. In 2007 for Jeffco, Hall went 10-1 on the mound and was a second team All-American. He will begin his professional career with the Yankees' Short Season affiliate in Staten Island, New York.
Wort Goes in Major League Draft (6/11/09)
Sophomore right handed pitcher, Rob Wort, was the number one selection in the 30th round on Wednesday in Major League Baseball's Amateur Draft. Wort,, who had 15 saves in two seasons as a Viking, was selected by the Washington Nationals.
